Creating Holiday Gifts

July 19, 2007 by Debbie Fitzgerald

It’s the most wonderful time of the year...
December is just a few short months away and it’s time to think about the holidays.  Before you run for the shopping malls, consider this: You can create beautiful gifts and holiday decorations with your scrap supplies!

·        Create a mini album that documents your family’s special traditions. Tell the story behind that special ornament or decoration.

·        Do you have foods that you make every year? How about altering a lunch tin to hold recipe cards for all your family favorites?

·        Alter a frame to hold that favorite holiday picture.

·        Fill clear glass ornaments with twists of colorful patterned paper. Alter a box to hold them.

·        Decorate a mantel with words spelled with altered wooden letters. “JOY” or “FAMILY” comes to mind.

·        Having a holiday get together? Create pretty invitations and festive place settings.

·        Alter a serving tray for a lovely decoration. (See the Creative Holding Tray)

·        Present your gifts in picturesque packaging. Embellish gift bags, create tags and cards. Make a gift card really special by packaging it in an altered tin like Krystn.

·        Display your holiday cards in a festive altered cardholder.

·        Embellish a glass jar candle with holiday rubons and ribbon. Create a decorative sleeve for a pillar candle.

·        Alter a paint can or takeout containers and fill with yummy holiday treats.

I hope this list gets your creative juices flowing as you get ready for the holidays.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.
Be Merry!
