Creative Ideas for Using Ribbon

May 23, 2007 by Paula Thompson

Hello, my name is Paula and I’m a ribbon hoarder! Yup, that’s right…I have hundreds of yards of ribbon and I still can’t resist buying more…especially the amazing Ribbon Kits available at CB (isn’t that little storage tin adorable?). Since I have so much ribbon I’m always on the look out for new ideas on how to incorporate it into my scrapbooking and cards. Here are some different ideas that you can have fun with.

  • Wrap pieces of ribbon diagonally around the corners of your photos or other accents to create customized ribbon photo corners.
  • Use lots of different ribbons to across your page to create your own “patterned paper”.
  • Take a piece of ribbon and bunch it up as you go across your page to create a fun, lumpy border. You can anchor the loops by stitching them down by hand or machine or just use brads.
  • Loop pieces of ribbon in the shape of a flower. Use a brad, button, jewel or even a chipboard shape for the center of the flower.
  • Small pieces of different ribbons all around the edges of a photo create a colorful  frame.
  • Try using small pieces of ribbon folded over and tucked under your photo for a fun tab border.
  • Crisscross ribbons on your page and tuck photos or other memorabilia in and around the ribbons.
  • Tie ribbons around a chipboard frame, tag or even a photo.
  • Cover a frame with ribbon by wrapping it diagonally over the entire surface.

I know that once you start playing with ribbon, you will come up with other fun and creative ways to use it. Make sure you share your layouts and cards with us. I’m excited to see what you create!
