Resources » OrganizationMaking the Most of Your ScrapsJuly 19, 2007 by Dolores Cancel What do you do with your scraps, after creating a project? Many times I put mine in a baggie and say to myself I’ll use them later. Well later is here, and guess what I have still not used 80% of my scraps. I must have over 30 baggies with different pattern papers, and cardstock. Well about 2 weeks ago I sat down started my project, took the scraps soon after and made a card. So I was able to kill two birds with one stone, as the saying goes, but I still have scraps. UGH!!!
Here are just a few ideas to use your scraps soon after creating a project:
1- Make tags, yes tags to put on another project. I find that there are so many uses for tags- hidden journaling, add to a card, or just add a small button, brad or bloom to your tag and use it as a gift tag. Cut your gift tags in all shapes and sizes fitting the occasion.
2- As a border- use your scraps to create a border on a card or page, to frame a photo on a layout. Cut them into 1 inch squares and create a mosaic theme layout or card.
3- Use your punches to make create your own embellishments for a project. Flowers, hearts, and star punches of all shapes out of pattern papers or cardstock create a 3-dimension look on a layout. You can also add these embellishments when altering or creating a card.
4- On chipboard- you can adhere your scrap to chipboard shapes and alpha to coordinate with your project.
5- Sew your scraps; yes sew scraps together to create a pattern paper quilt. You can cut your scraps into squares or if you’re like me and have strips of pattern paper scraps then you can interlock the scraps together and sew the edges. You’ve now created your own Pattern paper.
6. Swaps- I have a few friends who I swap my scraps with, this is really fun because you can get just pieces of some pattern paper that you didn’t have in your stash, but you really didn’t want to purchase because you weren’t sure what to do with it. We usually swap 12X6 inch scraps. Really gets your creativity going to know the pattern paper came from a friend.
I hope these ideas help you, next time you pick up your box or baggies full of scraps. Have fun creating. I would love to hear if you have other ideas for making the most of your scraps. Let us know! |
