Everybody Has a Story To Tell

July 19, 2007 by Dolores Cancel

Everybody has a story to tell, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Let’s see what happens when you combine these two quotes.  Story + Picture = Journaling

Both combine = a moment in time

How many times have you heard these two quotes?  Let’s start with “Everybody has a story to tell.”  You will be surprised at how true this quote is.  From the very young to the very mature.  Yes you read correctly the very young, as young as a one year old. How? You ask.  How can you turn a toddler’s word into a story?  Easy just talk to them, and use those one and two word sentences to create a story of what they said at that age.

Ex: My daughter at age one will say cuffee instead of coffee, keepy instead of piggy, and Coos Coos instead of Blues Clues.  How do I turn these simple words into a story, well I start by using her words and how she expressed them.  The story has now become a moment in time, snap a photo and viola; you’ve created a very special memory.

Another great story teller is your very mature adult; this person has so much history just waiting to share. Here is where you begin your heritage layouts.  You may not have photos to go with the history, but we can still journal about it and create a layout.

For most of us our families are the focus of a layout. If you asked anyone in your family to share a story, a dream, an idea, a goal these can all be a process of journaling.  When using their pictures in a layout.

Now for our second quote “a picture is worth a thousand words” while you could rely on your picture to tell the story it would be more complete if you included a description of your picture.  What would you like to remember about the picture you’re scrapping?  Funny little details, anecdotes, a few details if it’s just a fun picture and no special journaling is required.  I too struggle sometimes trying to figure out what I want to write and how I want to write it, but I’ve found that practice makes perfect! Okay maybe not perfect, but I’m trying.

Why journal? To preserve the memories of yesterday, for the future of tomorrow!

Just keep in mind that what ever choice of journaling you choose (visible or hidden) someday down the road someone else will want to know what was going on when they look through your scrapbooks.
